13th Friedrich World Championship, 2018
The Participants

Altogether, 32 players paricipated in the 12th FWC. For 6 players it was their first participation. The players came from the following countries: Germany (20), Spain (4), Great Britain (2), Netherlands (2), Sweden (1), USA (1).
Due to the format, the number of participants has to be a multiple of 4. This year, this was the case. Therefore, the Friedrich designer Richard Sivél had not to jump as out-of-competition fill-in player
Who was playing against whom was decided by drawing lots. Like in the previous years, every player could meet each player only once in the tournament. Furthermore, the lots were pre-sorted into pots in such a way that players coming from the same hometown group could not meet each other.
Note that Josef Gundel, the winner of the First FWC, returned after an 8 year break. Furthermore, two new teams of players enriched the tournament: 4 players from Berlin-Zehlendorf and 3 players from Ansbach/Nürnberg.
