17th Friedrich World Championship, 2022

The Participants

This year, 22 players participated in the tournament. For two players it was the first FWC.

The players came from the following countries: Germany (11), Spain (3), Great Britain (2), Netherlands (2), Ireland (1), Norway (1), Slovakia (1), Sweden (1).

Due to the format, the number of participants has to be a multiple of 4. Therefore, the Friedrich designer Richard Sivél as well as the veteran players Anton Telle and Thorsten Hennig jumped in, but played out of competition.

Who was playing who was decided by drawing lots. Like in the previous years, every player could meet each player only once in the tournament. Furthermore, the lots were pre-sorted into pots in such a way that players coming from the same hometown group could not meet each other.
