10th Friedrich World Championship

The Participants


Altogether 33 player participated in the 10th Friedrich World Championship. For 9 players it was their first participation.

The players came from the following countries: Germany (22), Spain (4), United Kingdom (3), Netherlands (2), Sweden (1), USA (1).

Due to the format, the number of players has to be a multiple of 4. Therefore, Sonja Garstke, Thorsten Hennig, Alex Hofmann, Richard Shako, Björn Steinborn, and the Friedrich designer Richard Sivél filled the gaps as spontaneous helpers. They played out of competition.

Who was playing whom was decided by drawing lots. Like in the previous years, every player could meet each player only once in the tournament. Furthermore, the lots were pre-sorted into pots in such a way that players coming from the same city could not meet each other.
