8th Friedrich World Championship

The Participants

The tournament has just started. At 9 tables players make their opening moves.

34 players participated at the 8th FWC. For 13 players it was their first FWC-participation.

The players came from the following countries: Germany (18), Sweden (4), Great Britain (3), Spain (5), Netherlands (2), USA (1), Estonia (1).

Due to the tournament format, the number of players had to be a multiple of 4. Therefore the Friedrich designer Richard Sivél, Andreas Dargel, Marian Leimbach und Thorsten Groß filled the gap (but playing out of competition).

Who was playing against whom was decided by drawing lots. Like in the previous years, every player could meet each player only once in the tournament. Furthermore, the lots were pre-sorted into pots in such a way that players coming from the same city could not meet each other.

Game 13: Andreas Buschhaus is moving Prussia. Alex Calderón and André Dallmann think about their next moves. In the background you can see the FWC trophy.

Game 8: Klaus Blum is moving. But what are Stephan Jordan and Niclas Büchel smiling about? In the end, Klaus will win quite a safe victory.
